Old North remains clear and outright $2.05 favourite in 2016 Frank Packer Plate betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of stable mate Asinara ($4.40) and market mover He’s Our Rokkii ($5.50).

Will Old North justify favouritism and win the 2016 Frank Packer Plate, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?

Old North ($2.05)

Old North is undoubtedly the class horse of the Frank Packer Plate field and will be tough to beat under the conditions and distance of the race, particularly with leading Godolphin hoop James McDonald in the saddle. Resuming from a brief freshen up for success in the Café Culture + Insitu BM67 (1400m) on March 2nd, the Lonhro colt made a credible transition to black type racing when fourth in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m). Old North will carry winning form into the 2016 Frank Packer Plate after winning the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) on March 26th, and still represents good value to double up at $2.05.

Zasorceress ($26)

Zasorceress carries competitive black type form into the 2016 Frank Packer Plate and undoubtedly represents the best value for money at current $26 odds for success or $5.60 to finish in the first three. Resuming for fourth in the Hyland Race Colours Maiden (1300m) on February 10th, the Zabeel filly was unlucky to be hampered in running in a Pakenham minor over 1600m on February 25th but has since placed third in each of the talent-rich BMD Urban Maiden Plate (1600m) and Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m). Treated well in the weights as a filly, Zasorceress will be partnered by notable hoop Kerrin McEvoy.

Asinara ($26)

Asinara has also returned to racing in good form this time and could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 5 in the 2016 Frank Packer Plate. Posting two wins and a minor through five career starts, the daughter of Teofilo filly ran fourth in the Di Parker BM77 (1400m) on February 24th; progressing to third in the Group 3 Arrowfield Classic (1600m) before running seventh in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on March 26th. Sure to enjoy a step back in class, Asinara will also carry only 54.5kgs.
