Zasorceress Primed for 2016 Frank Packer Plate

April 14th, 2016

Trainer Jason Warren has been thrilled with the class displayed by Zasorceress this time and is confident she is ready for a return to winning form in Saturday’s 2016 Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick.

Zasorceress resumed this time for a credible fourth in the Hyland Race Colours Maiden (1300m) at Sandown on February 10th before a luckless run for sixth when blocked for a run in the XXXX Gold Maiden Plate (1600m) a fortnight later.

Responding well with a tough performance for third in the BMD Urban Maiden Plate (1600m) on March 10th, Zasorceress made a commendable transition to black type company when third in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on Day 1 of The Championships.

Unlucky to miss a start in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), Warren told Racing Ahead that was perhaps a blessing in disguise, and Zasorceress will be perfectly-suited to the conditions of the 2016 Frank Packer Plate.

“I’m really happy with her,” Warren said.

“She’s worked very well Tuesday and we’ve drawn barrier 9 there on Saturday, and she’ll run really well.

“I think even if it’s wet, it won’t be a problem for her.

“The Oaks was obviously a really strong race this year and I think she’s found her race on Saturday by default.

“If we had gotten a run we would have had a throw at the stumps, but we would have only been a rough outside and this is an achievable goal on Saturday.

“I think she’s finally getting to the trip she’s been looking for and a lot of her other runs were lead-up runs. Just getting her ready and fit for a solidly-run 2000m race.

“I think these horses aren’t quite at the top level so I don’t think they’ll be a concern.”

Kerrin McEvoy will take the ride on Zasorceress in the 2016 Frank Packer Plate, and Warren will instruct the notable hoop to take a forward position on the filly.

“We get a small weight advantage and I’ve managed to get Kerrin McEvoy to ride her, who rode Bel Sprinter in the Group 1 for me,” Warren said.

“She doesn’t begin brilliantly and that’s why she hasn’t really got into the forward roll probably, but that’s our plan.”

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2016 Frank Packer Plate odds, for which Zasorceress can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $26 for success or $5.60 to finish in the first three.
