Sixteen runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s 2016 Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s standout three-year-olds.
Old North has fast stamped himself as one to watch for Godolphin this time and has been included in 2016 Frank Packer Plate nominations by trainer John O’Shea.
Posting three race wins through only six career starts so far, Old North returned this time for success in the Café Culture + Insitu BM67 (1400m) on March 2nd before making a commendable transition to black type company when fourth in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on March 12th.
Having returned to winning form in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) last time out, the Lonhro colt will be very tough to beat under the conditions and at the distance of the Frank Packer Plate.
Godolphin is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the three-year-old feature after O’Shea also included Asinara in 2016 Frank Packer Plate nominations.
He’s Our Rokkii returned to winning form last time and is primed to lay another great account for himself in the 2016 Frank Packer Plate.
He’s Our Rokkii posted a number of impressive results in his native New Zealand, including a well-fought fourth in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), before being transferred to the care of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig prior to spring.
Resuming this time for fourth in the Premier Signs BM70 (1300m), He’s Our Rokkii charged home to win the Browns Sawdust & Shavings BM70 (1600m) on March 2nd before finishing second behind Gold Fields in a Sandown minor over a mile on March 16th.
Having returned to winning form in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Day 1 of The Championships, He’s Our Rokkii appears as though he’ll relish a step-up to 2000m on Saturday.
Chris Waller is set to have only one representative in the race as Torgersen was the only name from his stable to appear in 2016 Frank Packer Plate nominations.
Torgesen has posted a number of commendable results so far this time, but there is something of a question mark over his chances in the Frank Packer Plate in stepping back from 2400m in the Australian Derby only two weeks ago.
The Pins colt is a proven performer at the distance and class however, having run second in the Tulloch Stakes on March 26th.
The 2016 Frank Packer Plate field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
