Three-year-old Blademeister is yet to produce much of a competitive run of form since returning to racing this time; however trainers Peter and Paul Snowden remain confident he is more than capable of black type success ahead of Saturday’s Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick.
Posting one race win and one minor place finish through his six career starts, Blademeister beat just one runner home in a minor over 1400m at Hawkesbury first-up this time; progressing to seventh in the Ranvet BM67 (1800m) before running ninth in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) most recently on March 28th.
Thrilled with the work produced by the Bernardini colt in recent weeks, co-trainer Paul Snowden told Racing Ahead the team has a high opinion of the three-year-old but he needs to start converting his work into competitive results.
“He’s a bit of a scratch your head type of horse this bloke because he does some really good things at home and he’s just not putting them together on race day,” Snowden said.
“Racing like he wants probably a little bit further, he’s a little bit stiff in himself.
“I would be surprised to see him jump out of the box a little but he still needs to prove it on the track.”
Stamping his claims as one to watch over his maiden racing campaign last winter, Blademeister ran third in a Warwick Farm sprint over 1300m on debut before placing a credible fourth in the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1400m) and winning TheRaces.com.au Handicap (1550m) and Randwick on July 26th.
Included in a list of eleven nominations on Monday, Blademeister is expected to be confirmed in the 2015 Frank Packer Plate final field by midday today (April 15th).
