Just nine three-year-olds have been confirmed for a tilt at the 2014 Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick this weekend, allowing for sensational value from a betting point of view and offering several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Claiming a strong victory at Randwick in her most recent appearance, Arabian Gold is currently sole occupant of the top line of betting for success in the 2014 Frank Packer Plate at $3.30 odds, ahead of Hooked ($3.50), Pheidon ($4.20) and Malice ($9).
Will Arabian Gold continue her sensational run of form in the 2014 Frank Packer Plate, or will one of her highly rated rivals cause an upset?
Arabian Gold ($3.30)
Securing six wins and two places from just 15 competitive starts to date, Arabian Gold has steadily built to the task over four appearances this time in; finishing fifth amongst classy competition in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up and while unable to match the late pace in both the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) and Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m), returning to the winner’s circle with a blistering turn of foot to win the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) by nearly two lengths last time out. Successful on both course and distance, Arabian Gold represents a great chance of victory in the 2014 Frank Packer Plate, particularly after drawing the ideal gate 2 at Wednesday’s barrier draw.
A consistent performer over his 14 race appearances so far, Hooked has arguably returned to racing in 2014 in career-best form, but will have to overcome the slightly wide barrier 8 if to figure in contention in this weekend’s Frank Packer Plate. Sprinting well to overcome poor position and finishing a fighting fifth in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 15th, the Casino Prince colt recorded a far-more polished run for fifth in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) just two weeks later, and was unlucky to finish third when finishing with strength in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) last time out.
Show The World ($15)
While yet to reach peak condition over three starts this time in, Show The World arguably offers punters the best value for money for success in the 2014 Frank Packer Plate at particularly generous odds of $15, or $3.90 for a place. Claiming two wins and two places from four starts in his maiden preparation over summer, the High Chaparral gelding was unlucky to finish second by a nose in the Listed Champion Guineas Prelude (2100m) on December 15th, but responded with a resounding victory in the Group 2 Championship Stakes (2100m); his first tilt at a Group level event. Allocated the ideal barrier 4 for the Frank Packer Plate, Show The World will be partnered by in-form jockey James McDonald.
